Today marks the anniversary of the declaration of the Palermo Barracks of the “General San Martín” Horse Grenadier Regiment as a National Historic Monument, a recognition that, due to its architectural value, has been recognized as a National Historic Monument.

Decree 1109, issued on October 24, 1997 by the National Executive Power, highlighted the importance of the barracks facilities, its buildings, gardens and the iconic ravine on Luis María Campos Avenue.

The Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo, founded by General José de San Martín in 1812, is not only a symbol of the liberating deeds of America, but also, from its barracks in Palermo, has safeguarded part of the legacy of Argentine military history. This site, with its monumental architecture and vast gardens, keeps not only the memory of the hero but also that of the soldiers who have served the country.

The declaration as a National Historic Monument not only protects and preserves the structure and its surroundings, but also underlines the cultural and symbolic value of the barracks.

Within the framework of this commemoration, President Javier Milei greeted the Grenadier Regiment at Casa Rosada, recalling the importance of this barracks in the national history.
