On a day like today, but in 1869, the Colegio Militar de la Nación was created, an institute more than 150 years old, dedicated to the education and training of future officers of the Argentine Army.
Its foundation was established by Law 357, during the presidency of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, who had the initiative to create a military school that would provide highly trained officers.
From its inception, the Colegio Militar de la Nación was fundamental in the development of national defence, training leaders who would be responsible for guaranteeing sovereignty and internal order. Its foundation reflected the progressive ideas of Sarmiento, who saw education as an essential pillar for the development of a modern state, not only in the civilian sphere but also in the military.
The College was initially installed in the barracks of San Benito, in the city of San Martín, province of Buenos Aires, and its first director was Colonel Juan F. Czetz. Throughout the years, the Military College has accompanied the challenges of each era, seeking academic excellence in the training of young cadets.
The instruction of future officers combines academic knowledge with training in military tactics, discipline and leadership, without forgetting the Sanmartinian values - Patriotism, Discipline, Esprit de Corps, Honour, Integrity, Loyalty, Selflessness, Professionalism, Courage - with which every Argentine soldier is trained.
In 1994, the College became a University Institute, granting Second Lieutenants an officially recognised degree with national validity by the Ministry of Education. Today, the Colegio Militar de la Nación is one of the academic centres of the National Defence University, with modern university curricula that prepare future officers for the new challenges of the future.
On its 155th anniversary, we salute all those who belong to this honourable institution who, conscious of their constitutional duties and rights, are trained to serve the Nation.
