Today we celebrate the Argentine Air Force Day in commemoration of the creation of the Military Aviation School of El Palomar, on 10 August 1912, within the Argentine Army. This was the first organism destined to the teaching of military flight and the first military air unit in the country.
Since its foundation, military aviation has undergone a progressive and sustained evolution, reaching its full maturity with the creation of the Aeronautics Secretariat on 4 January 1945. This event marked its constitution as the third Armed Force of the Nation, on an equal footing with the Army and the Navy.
The specific mission of the Argentine Air Force (FAA), since its origins, has been to organise, maintain and enlist the air forces of the Nation. This commitment is aimed at contributing to national defence and exercising sovereignty in Argentine airspace.
Currently, the Argentine Air Force actively responds to the demands and needs of the community. Its activities cover a wide range of services, such as search and rescue, firefighting, community actions in natural disasters and humanitarian aid both nationally and internationally. In addition, its flights to and from Antarctica are crucial for the supply and communication of scientific bases and camps on the White Continent.
On the 112th anniversary of the creation of the Military Aviation School, we extend our greetings and appreciation to all personnel, both active and retired, who belong to the Argentine Air Force. Their dedication and effort continue to be fundamental for the protection of our skies and the well-being of our Nation.
Today we celebrate and honour those who have dedicated their lives to military aviation, remembering the importance of their work in the defence and sovereignty of Argentina. Happy Argentine Air Force Day!
