Today, for the first time, an unprecedented, historic and simultaneous changing of the guard with the Regiments of Horse Grenadiers ‘General San Martín’, Infantry 1 ‘Patricios’ and Artillery 1, Brigadier General Tomás de Iriarte took place for the first time in Plaza de Mayo.

The event seeks to give value to the historical regiments of the Argentine Republic that did so much for the Independence of our country.

More than 130 uniformed men from the three units of the Argentine Army converged around the Pyramid of May to be replaced by other military personnel dressed in full dress and thus produce the relays of the guards in each building.

The Grenadier Regiment guards the Metropolitan Cathedral and Government House; the Cabildo, in the case of Patricios; and Iriarte, the Libertador Building, headquarters of the Ministry of Defence. The guards of each of these buildings left towards Plaza de Mayo, while the military fanfare with fifty or so musicians performed the martial songs.

From now on, the event will be repeated on the first Saturday of every month, with the participation of a military band and will be open to the public.
